Not at all, I thing having it dual typed is the way to go (as you can see by my two Wukong decks being Wind/Light and Wind/Fire). However, in both decks I run 4 dual stone, 5 Wind Stones, and 1 of the dual color so that way I always have enough wind will to use The Monkey King's ability/playing wind-attribute counters.
If you were feeling adventurous, you could try a Wind/Water build with support from RDE, as I can see interesting things happening with Door of Time and Millennia Bond (with the first effect, it's a Seal of W/L with draw), however some other new releases look promising.
Again, I hope I have answered your question and given you some food for thought!

I have a deck similar to this, and I really like the combination of Mikage and Laevateinn. Give him swiftness with inherent flying and imperishable, if you want to: turn four flip, pump with +1/+1 counters, swing and it doesn't even matter if they kill him. Next turn just flip again and swing with the [+1/+1] counters still there.
Also, I have had success with fated reunion in my Mikage deck.
Hope this helps!
